Harrison Photography was delighted to be onhand to capture the offical handover of the UEFA Cup to Dublin as the host city for the UEFA Cup final.
The countdown to the UEFA Europa League final in Dublin has begun in earnest after the trophy was handed over to the host city during a ceremony at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Dublin is now in possession of the UEFA Europa League trophy after UEFA President Michel Platini handed the silverware over to the host city for this season's final.
Wednesday 18 May is the date when the final comes to the Republic of Ireland's capital – and the Dublin Arena – and a month-long build-up to the big game began with today's trophy handover at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
"Five years ago we began this journey when we met the Football Association of Ireland and the Irish Prime Minister and it is a very good idea for the UEFA Europa League to come to Dublin," said Mr Platini as he passed the trophy on to Dublin's lord mayor, Gerry Breen.
The historic nature of Dublin's first European club final, as well as the cultural heritage of the host city, was underlined by the venue for the handover ceremony: the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, a 17th-century building which now houses the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
Mr Breen said that his city of 1.5 million people would be offering a huge welcome to the UEFA Europa League. "Irish football fans have travelled the world supporting the Republic of Ireland but this is the first time that an event like this has come to our shores and this will be a major occasion for the city," he said. "Dublin holds big sporting events all the time but this has a truly international aspect, and that will add to the flavour of it all."

Congratulations to the UCC team who won the CFA Global Investment competition.
Pictured are L-R Donal Patrick O'Dughain, Dorota Agnieszka Donigiewicz, Richard O'Donovan, Richard Murphy and Frank Kelly
Paddy Power is a ‘great bet’ according to the UCC team that won this year’s CFA Global Investment Research Challenge (GIRC) last night in Dublin. The five person UCC team competed against teams from DCU, Trinity, NUIG and UCD in the Irish final. This year, the students analysed Ireland’s largest bookmaker, Paddy Power meeting, last November, with Paddy Power’s Finance Director Jack Massey for an overview of the company and in December the students had Q&A conference calls with Paddy Power’s Investor Relations team to gather further company information.
The winning team reported that despite the difficult economic climate, Paddy Power has maintained a very strong financial position. In the Irish retail market toughening economic conditions and the current austerity measures have put a lot of downward pressure on some bookmakers, but Paddy Power’s recent decision to acquire the remainder of Australian operation Sportsbet and the possibility of increasing regulation/liberalisation of the Australian market provides significant growth opportunities for the company. The teams’ report stated, “As more governments seek to gain tax revenues from online gambling and the possibility of new markets becoming regulated increases, Paddy Power is well placed to compete for any new business”.

We have been having a great time shooting landscapes with out converted infrared camera.
Infrared Photography or more accurately near infrared photography refers to the part of the light spectrum with a wavelength range from about 700 nm to about 1000 nm. This is beyond normal human perception which is between 400 nm and 700nm. It was developed early in the 20th century to be used primarily in aerial photography. Its effect especially when used for black and white photography renders skies very dark and makes green foliage almost white. It makes for a dreamlike quality.
We will be uploading a whole series of infrared photography in our personal section soon that will be available to buy.

There was nothing “Eel” usive at the ‘Something Fishy’ Awards Today.
11th June 2010 The winning class from The Robertson National School in Ballintra, Co. Donegal visited the Central Fisheries Board in Swords today. They were presented with the ‘Something Fishy’ National Award by Rob Ross of RTE’s ICE show. The thirty pupils who were accompanied by their principal, teacher and some of their proud parents travelled to Dublin to be presented with their prize. They won the National ‘Something Fishy’ competition with a presentation on eels called “Eel”usive. This looked at all aspects of the life cycle. It examined how eels live and behave as well as looking into the decline of the eel population and what is being done about it. Dr Ciaran Byrne CEO of the Central Fisheries Board was impressed with the effort and time that the schools and pupils had put into their work. He stated that “this is great project and everyone involved with it should be justly proud. We are now in the third year of the national prize giving and each year we are overwhelmed by the high standard of entries as well as the differing approaches schools are able to bring to this work. ‘Something fishy’ is a project in which all participating students learn about our environment and its importance as well as learning about our fisheries. This knowledge will be carried by the students into adult life and passed on so helping the community protect our environment.” The ‘Something Fishy’ programme is continuing for the 2010/2011 year and is supported by an interactive website: www.somethingfishy.ie. The Central and Regional Fisheries Boards and the Educational Centres expect that the interest for the 2010/2011 competition will be very strong and the standards will reach the exceptional levels reached in this year’s competition.

We were down in Kilkenny at the weekend and were pleased to discover the best contemporary jewellery we've ever seen at Rudolf Heltzel.[link text][1]
You can see his beautiful range of jewellery by visiting http://www.heltzel.ie/
They have a passion for their work which is infectious and make all their pieces on site. We were WOW'd by what they do and you should pay them a visit if your in Kilkenny.
German by birth, Rudolf has lived and worked in Kilkenny since 1966. At his studio, platinum, gold, silver and precious stones are worked into magnificent, timeless and eminently wearable jewellery.
His strong designs and impeccable workmanship have won him international acclaim. His advice, and help with developing new collections of jewellery, has been sought by jewellery manufacturers in the Far East, South East Asia, the Near East and in the Caribbean. Both in Ireland and abroad he has been instrumental in establishing training opportunities for jewellery makers and keeping ancient traditional skills alive.
Rudolf believes that making jewellery is part of a living cultural heritage, and should express the individuality and aspirations of both the maker and the wearer.

Another very satisfied customer sent in this letter of thanks today.
Hi Mark,
We are back from our honeymoon and back to reality. We wanted to send you a note to say thank you very much for all your help and brilliant work leading up to and on our wedding day. As you know when we met you in your house in Bray we were very quick to choose you as our photographer. This was mainly based on a reference from a work colleague that also had you photo their wedding, but the main decision was based on how comfortable you made us both feel. You showed us all the different options for albums and the various costings. In this current climate your pricing was well below other companies and your service was well above standard. You gladly meet us in kildare for an engagement photo which anyone that has seen it have said it is brilliant. Having worked with you through the full day of our wedding we can only say that you are excellent at what you do. At times we didn't know where you were as you were so discreet when taking photos during the mass etc.... Having seen the result of our wedding photo's on your site we can only say a huge thank you to you. We have given access to family and friends so they can view the photos no matter where they are in the country, which is an excellent feature.
So from the two of us we would like to say a big thank you for your professionalism in capturing our wedding day. We would recommend you to anyone who is planning a wedding.
Thanks,
Mairead & Aidan Murray
